South Dakota Governor's Hunt Set for This Weekend
South Dakota's Invitational Governor's Hunt is set to take place this weekend in central South Dakota. The Governor's hunt, based out of Pierre, SD has been an annual event since the early 80's when it was resurrected by Governor Bill Janklow as an economic development effort to bring in business leaders interested in relocating their company to South Dakota.National Pheasant Fest 2009 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin will be Pheasants Forever's fifth such event. Nearly 30,000 people attended the fourth-ever Fest this past January in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and the event has grown into the nation's largest event for upland hunters, farmers, sport dog owners and wildlife habitat conservationists.
Early Ice Causes Concern for Pheasants and Quail - Dec. 30, 2008
BOONE - Many Iowa residents are becoming concerned about Iowa's upland game populations with the recent snowfall and ice across much of Iowa. Preliminary information from the National Climatic Data Center through Dec. 29 shows that Iowa has received an average of 18 inches of snow since Dec 1, while several northeast Iowa towns have seen 20 to 30 inches of snow already this winter.
TPWD Sets Panhandle Pheasant Scoping Meetings - Dec. 12, 2008
AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is asking for public input on possible changes to the traditional first weekend in December opening date for pheasant season in the Panhandle. A series of scoping meetings is set for January to give the public additional opportunities to comment.
Pheasants Heading for Cover - Dec. 09, 2008
BOONE-Iowa pheasant hunters are turning to areas with more robust cover to find pheasants after the recent snow and blowing snow filled in road ditches and fence lines. Look for fields enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program, rows of conifers or shrubs located next to crop fields as places to be holding the most pheasants.
