Dan Kruger of Groton, South Dakota, is a new Life Member of Pheasants Forever thanks to the Aberdeen Convention and Visitors Bureau and Aberdeen's Million Dollar Bird promotion.

One hundred pheasants were banded in fall South Dakota's Brown County this fall, each band being worth at least $100, with the potential of being worth up to $1 million. Forty-one bands were turned into the Convention and Visitors Bureau office. The winning "Million Dollar Bird" band number was stored in an electronic device. All bands turned in were automatically entered to win the $1 million dollar prize. Of all the bands turned in, one band was drawn and checked with the electronic device. If that number was a match, the band holder would win $1,000,000.

The band number pulled out was number 25, and the Million Dollar winning band number was 31. Number 25 was shot by Dan Kruger from Groton and he will win $2,500 and a Life Membership to Pheasants Forever, compliments of the Aberdeen Convention and Visitor's Bureau. As a Life Member, Kruger, who has never been a Pheasants Forever member before, will receive:

  • Framed Life Member certificate with Gold Pin and recognition in Pheasants Forever's Annual Report
  • The Pheasants Forever Journal, which is published five times a year and features stories on upland bird hunting, guns, sporting dogs, habitat improvement projects, environmental issues, legislative action and other outdoor interests.
  • A Pheasants Forever leather jacket

"Aberdeen and the surrounding area prides itself on having more than 208,000 acres of public hunting land," said Casey Weismantel, Outdoor Media Representative for the Aberdeen Convention & Visitors Bureau, "Hunting is a tradition in this area and Aberdeen businesses roll out the "orange carpet" and Midwest hospitality to welcome our hunters. We had a successful hunting season this fall and hope everyone was able to bag their limit and have fun hunting for the Million Dollar Bird."
