Pheasants Forever is expanding its Farm Bill Biologist program in Minnesota with the addition of a position covering McLeod and Meeker Counties. Farm Bill Biologist Michael Schultz joins Pheasants Forever from the Blue Earth Soil and Water Conservation District in Mankato, Minnesota, where he worked as the Cobb River Watershed Coordinator. Schultz is based out of the Meeker Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) office in Litchfield, Minnesota.
The new Farm Bill Biologist position was created in partnership with the Meeker SWCD, the McLeod SWCD, the Minnesota Farm Bill Assistance Partnership, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Meeker County and McLeod County Chapters of Pheasants Forever.
Pheasants Forever's Farm Bill Biologist program is designed to educate farmers and landowners – through one-on-one consulting - about the benefits of conservation programs (such as the federal Conservation Reserve Program, or CRP), as well as assist those farmers and landowners after programs have been implemented. Pheasants Forever first began employing Farm Bill Biologists in 2003 and now have over 45 Farm Bill Biologists working in seven states – Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Farm Bill Biologists have contacted and consulted over 28,000 landowners, resulting in the improvement of over 1.3 million acres of land for wildlife.
Michael Schultz – A native of Norwood Young America, Minnesota, Schultz has also worked previously with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and has worked to restore, protect and enhance wildlife habitat in Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota. He earned his B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from South Dakota State University. Schultz can be contacted at (320) 693-7287 and mschultz@pheasantsforever.org.
