PIERRE, S.D. - A proposal to increase the daily bag limit of pheasants from 3 to 5 was defeated at the monthly GFP Commission meeting in Pierre on Thursday.
A proposal needs five votes from the eight member Commission to become rule, but there were only four supporting the measure so the proposal failed to pass.
The bag limit for pheasants will remain at 3 daily and 15 in possession.

I didn't think it would pass... but that's just me.

I have hunted South Dakota with a group from Illinois and Arkansas the past 5 years. By far, this year was the worst. We took home an average of 9 birds each for two week's hunting. We saw the fewist amount of birds in the last 5 years. We look forward to coming to South Dakota but with the cost of hotels, meals, gas and such, the value wasn't there this year. I believe we were misled as to the number of birds this year. We will likely go to western Oklahoma next year where we can chase not only pheasants but quail as well. Less cost and better opportunity.
