CHEYENNE - A new Wyoming program helping beginning hunters to try hunting with a mentor before taking hunter safety is now available.
If you were born on or after January 1, 1966, you must complete a hunter safety course before hunting in Wyoming. Wyoming's new Hunter Mentor program, however, allows any person who has not yet received hunter education certification to apply for special authorization to hunt while being accompanied by a mentor. This allows a hunter to experience hunting before committing to the coursework required to complete hunter safety.
The program is being administered by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. For more information about the program, or to begin the hunter mentor certification process, contact the Game and Fish Hunter Education section at (307) 777-4538 or visit the hunter mentor Web site at /Huntermentor/index.asp.
