LITTLE ROCK ? There is an invisible but legal and required no-hunting safety zone around every occupied house in Arkansas. It?s for anyone other than the occupants and their families. Arkansas Game and Fish Commission regulations specify that no one can hunt with firearms within 150 yards of a residence. There is an exception. With written permission, a hunter can be closer than that. The key word is ?residence.? Barns, sheds and other structures not being used as a primary or temporary residence, do not count. For archery hunting, the distance is 50 yards, and the written permission exception also applies. But someone living in a house or an immediate family member can shoot a deer from the back porch ? if such an opportunity arises. That?s legal. Permission to hunt forms are included in AGFC hunting regulation guidebooks.
