YODER, WY - With the goal of providing the best pheasant hunting opportunity and maximizing the number of stocked pheasants ending up in hunter’s game vests, the Game and Fish Department has selected the Goshen and Laramie County walk-in areas that will be stocked with pheasants this fall.
In Goshen County, walk-in areas 19, 29, 35 and 63 will be stocked with rooster pheasants. Walk-in areas 21 and 34 will be stocked in Laramie County. Weather permitting, the walk-in areas will receive two releases per week through mid-December.
Hunters are alerted that overall the cover is reduced on the walk-in areas due to a very dry spring and summer and birds may be more prone to run and flush wild. If heavy snows significantly knock down cover on a walk-in area, releases will be postponed on that area until conditions improve.
Pheasants will also be stocked through Dec. 3 at the Table Mountain Habitat Area south of Huntley, but pheasants will not be stocked at the Rawhide Habitat Area near Lingle again this year. The general pheasant season in southeast Wyoming runs Nov. 4 - Dec. 31.
Hunters are cautioned if they follow the stocking truck, the driver will likely return to the Downar Bird Farm and not release the birds. Hunters are also reminded shooting hours on the Springer Habitat Area general season (Nov. 4-10) and the Glendo Special Pheasant Hunt (Nov. 4 - Dec. 31) are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hunters, regardless of age, are reminded to purchase the Pheasant Management Permit or stamp, to hunt pheasants on walk-in areas, habitat areas and Glendo State Park. (contact: Jeff Obrecht)
