Chukar, Quail Season Opens October 14

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is reminding hunters that while rifle deer season opens this weekend, the hunting seasons for chukar, Hungarian partridge, quail, cottontail and pygmy rabbits, and white-tailed jackrabbit will not open until October 14, one week later. The season was adopted by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners at its June 2005 meeting. The chukar, Hungarian partridge and quail seasons will all run from October 14 until January 31. The rabbit seasons close February 28. An upland game bird stamp is required to hunt upland game birds, except turkey and crow, for anyone age 12 or older. Funds from the stamp sales are used to support guzzler maintenance and habitat work that benefits upland game bird species. Hunters are also encouraged to be careful using off highway vehicles in fire-damaged areas, as soils will be more susceptible to erosion. The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, boating safety and wildlife related activities. NDOW?s wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen?s license and conservation fees and a federal tax on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination license.
