With most of Nevada’s hunting seasons scheduled to get under way soon, the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is advising hunters that now is a good time to brush up on hunting safety by taking a hunter education class online.
“Although completion of this Internet class may not be used as evidence of attending a hunter education class for the purpose of purchasing hunting licenses, it is a great way for hunters to brush up at home before going out in the field, “ said John McKay, NDOW hunter education coordinator.
The course is offered free of charge through the International Hunter Education Association (IHEA) at www.ihea.com. “It’s well worth every hunter’s time, regardless of their age or experience, to take this course before they go hunting,” said McKay.
The course is divided into 15 major topics including firearm safety, modern firearms, ammunition and shooting skills. Also covered are game care, wildlife management, wildlife identification and hunter ethics and responsibilities.
“I believe that all hunters will benefit and learn some things from the course. And what you learn will not only make you a safer and more conscientious hunter, but will make your hunting experiences even more rewarding and enjoyable,” he said.
The IHEA is a professional association with a membership that includes 63 state and provincial conservation agencies and 55,000 volunteer instructors who teach hunter education classes in the U.S. and Canada.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife is the state agency responsible for the protection, restoration and management of fish and wildlife resources, and the promotion of boating safety on Nevada’s waters.
