MAYFLOWER, AR – Plans for National Hunting and Fishing Day are in the works at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Camp Robinson Shooting Range. The Sept. 23 nationwide celebration shares the values and fun of the outdoors with every outdoorsman, woman and child. Shotguns, .22-caliber rifles, muzzleloaders and bows will be available from 9 a.m. to noon at the range, just off Arkansas Highway 89 in Faulkner County.
A field course will allow participants to test their skills on ethics and safety. Field activities will be set up to allow participants to enhance their outdoor skills, and the Arkansas B.A.S.S. chapter will oversee a casting contest from noon to 4 p.m., youngsters 15 and under may fish for catfish in the range’s pond, but they must supply tackle and bait.
The limit is three catfish per child. The rifle and pistol ranges will be available to shooters with their own firearms and ammunition. Door prizes will be awarded to participants 15 years and younger in the day’s events at 1 p.m. All activities are free of charge.
