South Dakota Governor's Hunt Set for This Weekend
Oct. 22, 2010South Dakota's Invitational Governor's Hunt is set to take place this weekend in central South Dakota. The Governor's hunt, based out of Pierre, SD has been an annual event since the early 80's when it was resurrected by Governor Bill Janklow as an economic development effort to bring in business leaders interested in relocating their company to South Dakota.
Maps of South Dakota’s public lands have gone interactive on the Game, Fish and Parks Department Web site. Users interested in finding public lands for hunting, fishing or outdoor recreation will find a wealth of information at www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/PublicLands/PubLand.htm.

Most pheasant hunting seasons come and go, recalled only by certain events: a puppy’s first retrieve, a first double or that rare triple, partners and dogs now long deceased. Maybe it’s a picture of that Thanksgiving day hunt or a Christmas hunt in the snow with a late season limit. The specific year seems mostly forgotten. When it is remembered, it is often long ago.
S.D. Pheasant Counts Up For 2008 - Sep. 02, 2008
PIERRE, SD - Favorable weather conditions and good habitat have once again combined to produce a record pheasant crop in South Dakota. Brood count surveys conducted by the S.D. Game, Fish and Parks Department tallied pheasant numbers that once again hearken back to the days of the Soil Bank era in the 1950s and '60s. Surveys that measure pheasants per mile from brood routes put the 2008 index at 8.56 pheasants per mile.
