South Dakota Annual Pheasant Survey Underway
Aug. 03, 2010PIERRE, S.D. - It's not always easy to make a connection between the dog days of August and South Dakota's annual pheasant hunting season, but the Game, Fish and Parks Department does that in a very big way with its annual pheasant brood route survey.
Brookings, S.D. - August 16, 2010 - Pheasants Forever's Farm Bill Biologist program, which provides conservation service to landowners through one-one-one consulting, launched in South Dakota in 2003. In just seven years, the program has worked to improve soil, water and wildlife habitat quality on more than 500,000 South Dakota acres. Pheasants Forever looks to add to that total during the current Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up.
Pheasant Harvest Near 1.7 Million in 2009 - Apr. 15, 2010
PIERRE, S.D. - The Game, Fish and Parks Department estimates that South Dakota's pheasant harvest in 2009 was just short of 1.7 million roosters. "We complete a science-based random survey of hunters each year at the end of the hunting seasons," said Corey Huxoll, GFP harvest surveys coordinator. "Thanks to the overwhelming response these hunters provide us, we are able to get an accurate picture of their success."

Statewide Pheasant Season Proposed; Youth and Resident Season Finalized - Mar. 12, 2010
PIERRE, S.D. - The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Commission has proposed a statewide traditional pheasant season this year that is similar to 2009 and a slightly longer season for pheasant hunters at Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Brown County. The Sand Lake proposal would adjust the season-ending date from Dec. 31 last year to the first Sunday of January.

Pheasant Proposal Fails - Dec. 03, 2009
PIERRE, S.D. - A proposal to increase the daily bag limit of pheasants from 3 to 5 was defeated at the monthly GFP Commission meeting in Pierre on Thursday. A proposal needs five votes from the eight member Commission to become rule, but there were only four supporting the measure so the proposal failed to pass.
Pheasant Limits May Increase In December - Nov. 25, 2009
Pierre, S.D. - Due to the delayed harvest of crops this fall, the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission intends to act at its Dec. 3-4 meeting in Pierre on a proposal to raise the three-bird daily pheasant bag limit to five cock pheasants daily.
