Pawnee Valley Lodge in Jetmore is a nice place to stay. The Derrick Inn, well lets just say Rusty Trigger hit the nail on the head, we had about the same experience.

It definitely sounds like the Derrick Inn hasn't changed! I think we'll try the Pawnee Valley Lodge. Thanks for all the recommendations.

I spent the weekend with a buddy and his son working through Hodgeman county. We saw some birds, but it was a little disappointing. Lots of Walk-in, but lots of it was pasture. There may have been some thicker, bird-holding parts of those pastures, but it felt a little like a needle in a haystack situation. Also, we saw a surprising amount of other hunters for mid-January. Hope your results are better than ours.

We stayed in Dodge at the Best Western North Edge. We ate dinner saturday night at Central Station or something like that. Also eaten at Casey's Cowtown. Both are good enough. I've stayed at that hotel several times and I really like it. I'm sure it's more expensive than the Pawnee Valley Lodge-which looked decent enough as we drove through Jetmore.

My wife and I loved the stories about the Derrick inn. Never stayed there, but have a whole list of places we will never stay again. Several where we slept with our clothes on. Maybe a thread should be started about places not to stay. Near the top of our list is a place in North Dakota that didn't have any window coverings so we covered it with duct tape so my wife could shower. Only found out that there was only enough hot water for a couple rooms to have a shower every night and if you were not first it was a quickie.

Considering how hard we work to set money aside for hunting trips and at times and unknowingly stay in a dumpy motel. Perhaps we should put a list of motels that we wouldnt let our dogs stay in??? Lol

Oh the old Derrick Inn lol. I can tell some stories about that place. The bar that used to be downstairs called the Location used to have adult entertainment some weekends. I also know a guy that had some pretty wild hot tub parties in the suite upstairs. I saw a drunk swim across the pool on his way back to his room one night. When Van owned it the place wasn't as nasty as it is now. When I was younger it didn't bother me staying there, but I stay in Dodge now but hear good things about the one in Jetmore.

We used to hold family reunions at the Derrick in the eighties and early nineties. That and the old settlers reunion, we had some good times. I couldn't tell you what it's like now. I know it went to pot then they cleaned up but I haven't stayed there in 6 or 7 years.
