    Default Winchester Model 1400 MK-II

Anyone still have or hunt with one of these? If so, give me your thoughts on the gun. I have a chance to buy one in 16 ga.

I bought a Ranger 140 for my son way back when. It's the very plain Jane version of the 1400. Not fancy but it shot reliably and broke targets/killed pheasant and quail. A friend needed an inexpensive shotgun for home defense and I sold him the 140 cheap and upgraded my sons to Benellis.

The new owner still has the gun and shoots Sporting Clays with it. He's not a big time shooter but he recently broke 46/50 with it. It soldiers on.

The 140 is no head turning beauty but the 1400 is a bit more upscale in the looks department.

Personally, I wouldn't hesitate if you want a 16 auto and it 1) fits you fairly well 2) has decent balance and 3) appears to be well cared for. You could probably shoot it a while and sell it if you didn't like it without taking much of a hit. 16s have a following as we have noticed here.

Saw a New-in-box 1400 MkII in 16 on Gunbroker just now. $700 for Buy It Now. Let your conscience be your guide. After all, you can't take it with you.

I've been watching that NIB 1499 MK-II on GunBroker. An average 1400 MK-II is probably a $300 gun at best today. The NIB is nice but I'm not a collector and if I bought it, it would quickly not be NIB and unfired so I'm not sure what premium to pay. The seller says the guns weighs just 6 lbs. The current auction is the 4th. The first time around the max bid was $400, 2nd time it was $500 and this last time it was $575. I'm only interested in it because of it's uniqueness, not because it's a great shotgun. Not many of those old Winchesters around.

Guess I don't need to worry about it as I just checked and it sold for $700 with BuyItNow.

Hope I didn't hose you by pointing out that MKII on Gunbroker. My apologies. Shouldn't have mentioned it I guess.

No problem. That's the gun I was referring to in my original post.

Yeah, that fact dawned me a bit late. Wonder if somebody here saw it and made the play. Again, my apologies. I learn something new (over and over again) every day.
