    Default Cold Weather up North

MAN! it's been cold in the North Country.
We do have the benefit of low snow cover. Temps and Windchill is bad almost every day.
According to snow depths, 12 inches in Plentywood? but less as You go South.
Any info from You Guys out there?

Most of the snow here in south central MT is gone, in the Billings area anyway. We got about 6" a couple weeks ago, but the past week has been warm, in the 30's & 40's. Billings isn't the best place to judge MT temps as it's the banna belt in MT. It gets cold here, but not like the hi-line and eastern MT. I was born and raised in Glendive and can honestly say I don't miss the winters there, but I do miss the hunting though, a lot better than round here.
A bad day of hunting always beats a good day at work.

I notice the difference between Billings forecast and that of Plentywood.
Broadus and Plentywood are different worlds.

Northeast corner is usually 20 degrees colder in the winter, you climb north of the Fred Robinson Bridge and things change rapidly. Their has not been a foot of snow for quite awhile now, 3 inches of stubble is showing in most places with the tops of the coulees pretty opened up. The other day is was 50 in Billings and we struggled to make 20, it is the Banana belt for a reason, hell, I am sure fishing is still great down below yellowtail on the Bighorn!

The high for today here in Billings is 50. Nice weather for January, but bad for business.

Husker, Have You been to Homestead area lately?
MT snow cover maps show Culbertson 6 inches, Malta 4 and the Plentywood, Outlook areas with 18" But then Along the River its almost bare ground.
There's been some heavy snowfalls in the NE lately.
Talked to friends on the upper Frenchman's yesterday. they have about a foot and a half on the ground. They need some thawing weather up there, birds are bunched up in the stackyards.

10 am temps are Baker 39, Wolf Point 21 and Opheim 23. Easy to see where the snow cover is.

Here in Glasgow, snow is still here but you can see 2-3" of stubble and many open areas. I was over at Nelson's Res. this weekend and their is more snow on the ground over there but nothing to unusual. As for Homestead and Sheridan county, they have a bit more snow then us, I talked a couple of friends over that way and you can also see the top of the stubble in the fields over there and the tops of the coulees are sometimes bare, just pretty much a standard winter so far, a couple of slight, cold snaps but nothing we or the animals cant handle.

All in all it sounds like a normal Winter
Birds are VERY hardy in MT and can handle the normal stuff with no problem.
