You’re not that far from Pierre/Ft Pierre which is just north of the Grasslands. Plenty of lodging and good eats in the area.
So sad to read this. He truly was a steward of the land. What he was doing at his place to improve habitat was nothing short of amazing. I killed my first wild SD bird at Jim's place. Sad day...
Thanks all for the suggestions. Will give these ideas a try!
That’s the issue....she’s got a super prey drive. She’ll retriieve dead birds to hand, but at home, not in the field. I can toss a dead bird on the yard and she will get it. Also see my previous...
I’ve got a strange retrieving issue that I’m struggling to figure out. Two year old female Golden with strong bloodlines and strong hunt drive. Will play fetch for hours with a decoy. Retrieved...
I agree with the approach. A couple of pups ago, I had a Golden that was very gun shy. She did however have a strong bird drive. A local hunt club has its bird pens adjacent to their sporting...
+1. Very tiring.
Same thing here. Several years ago out in South Dakota, one of my Goldens came back with a front foot toenail just hanging. I pulled it off. Bled a little. I cleaned it and wrapped and within 2...

Could have. Would have. Should have. Some days things go just right, some days not so much. Still had ANOTHER great day in South Dakota. Spent today in the area mid away between White Lake and...
Hi Golson. I’m from Mukwonago, south of Waukesha about 10 miles. Weather looks good for you for next week with temps in the 40s. It was 62 here today. I’m pretty confiyif you put in you’re time,...
You should appreciate that we are into the season and frankly there are almost no reports. I’ve learned a lot from this site so try to give a little back in the form of a report fresh from the...
Hunted south and west of Plankinton today. Similar to yesterday, a lot of driving to find birds but when you got to an area that had birds you saw more. Storm flushed 13 birds today. I stone cold...
After not having been to SD for a couple years, I decided to give it a try based on large part on the better reports from the state game and fish dept. the odds aren’t with me. I’ve got a somewhat...
Pheasant fajitas and pheasant jambalaya are my two favorites. Save the legs and thighs from your birds. Pressure cook for 20 minutes and that meat is tender and peels super easy. If you don’t...
Proud moment! Congrats to you and your pup!

From page 38 of the 2018 South Dakota Hunting Handbook:
"...Hunters can take only small game (except mourning doves)and waterfowl within the rights of way on foot. The hunter must be within the...
Not being a wise guy 0918style, but as long as the bird flushes from the right of way (and not in the 660 foot safety zone around occupied buildings or livestock), you can shoot at it after it leaves...
Thanks Bob...appreciate your weekly reports!
