Things are better than I can remember in years. We saw a lot of birds last year, especially around the wetlands in McPherson. It's been a long time since I've seen birds going down old 81 to Newton, and I kept seeing them during the summer. We're also seeing quail. Quail numbers had dwindled in this area for a while, but they seem to be rebounding. It's hard to hunt any Walk-In this way because it gets pressured hard by Wichita folks.
BritChaser, I know you have been on this site a long time. I just hadn't had time in the last year or so because of work to be on this site. I too run Brits. I might end up hunting in Kansas in Jan for the first time in 3 years. I have heard that some parts of SW Kansas may have decent numbers of Pheasant. Got any ideas? Thanks Steve
BritChaser, saw that you live in Lawrence and just thought I would say hi and introduce myself. I live SE of Lawrence, out near Eckmans hunting preserve. I too am a Brittany guy. Unfortunately, I lost my 3 1/2 boy to cancer this summer. It was a terrible loss, he was just coming into his prime and was looking good. Planning on a new pup that should be whelped around Christmas. I enjoy this forum, lots of good info here. Have a safe and productive hunting season!! Mark Schroeder
