Diverse cover, flighty birds and good dog work make for a great pheasant hunt at Basswood Lodge. Our pheasant season runs from Sept. 1st through April 15. We take pride in the quality of our birds. We plant a variety of cover including corn, buckwheat, sorghum, switch grass, sunflowers, as well as natural cover such as goldenrod, canary grass, cattails and red willow brush. This allows good cover for the birds throughout the fall and winter and into spring. Pheasant hunters are welcome to bring their own dogs and hunt on their own. Those hunters who don’t own a dog can hunt with one of our guides and bird dogs.We offer flushing dogs and pointers to suit the hunter’s preference. We also offer pheasant hunting memberships.

Test your skills against North America's favorite game bird on nearly 700 acres of the finest upland hunting around. Our upland bird hunting preserves consist of two separate areas, one 250 acres and the other over 400 acres. These were selected with pheasant habitat in mind. Their open terrain, thick hedge rows, natural grasses and plots of sorghum and corn make them an exceptional place to hunt the Wiley game birds. The hunts themselves take place along a wooded ridge where twelve heavily wooded uphill "butts" are strategically arrayed around the irregularly shaped hill. A Typical Hunt Starts early in the morning with the birds released on the preserve. The hunting parties then move out in groups of (2-4) accompanied by a pointer lab. Groups then work the land from east to west searching and flushing the birds. When birds are flushed, hunters can take their shots.
