It was a windy and cool Saturday, April 16th, but at least the snow was gone. Nine Ultimate Pheasant Hunting members and a couple gal-friends got together at the Minnesota Heartland Preserve near Granite Falls, MN for a pheasant hunt.
Everyone arrived around 11:00 AM and had a chance to meet each other before we had a lunch of Sloppy Joe’s, chips, brownies and non-alcoholic beverages. Lunch was provided by goldeneye, GustavDaGSP and Dakotazeb.
After lunch a few took the opportunity to shoot some trap before we headed to the fields. In the field the Preserve planted 8 birds (4 per hunter) in various fields and then a team of two hunters and two dogs attempted to find the birds. A total of 44 birds were released of which 26 were harvested.
The cover was marginal due to having not recovered from the winter snow pack. The light cover along with the strong north wind probably accounted for more birds not being harvested.
After the hunt we gathered back at the lodge for more socializing and a few cocktails. A great time was had by all and everyone is interested in doing it again.
