South Dakota’s Invitational Governor’s Hunt is set to take place this weekend in central South Dakota.
The Governor’s hunt, based out of Pierre, SD has been an annual event since the early 80’s when it was resurrected by Governor Bill Janklow as an economic development effort to bring in business leaders interested in relocating their company to South Dakota.
It’s said that the weekend hunt is a chance to host business leaders in a relaxed atmosphere and talk shop while hunting pheasant.
With Mike Rounds set to leave office in January, this weekend’s hunt will be his last as its host.
Candidates running to take his place currently debate whether or not the Governor’s Hunt is still a positive investment for the state’s economy, and whether or not the hunt’s list of guests should be made public.
Several South Dakota property owners donate their land for the event, which includes a day hunting world famous South Dakota pheasant, along with dinners and entertainment Friday & Saturday nights.
