CHEYENNE, WY - As big game hunting winds down in many areas throughout the state, much of the interest of Wyoming's hunters turns to birds, with pheasants being among the most popular quarry.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department supplements Wyoming pheasant hunting with releases on a number of the walk-in areas that will be stocked with pheasants periodically throughout the season.

In Goshen County, walk-in areas 5, 19, 35 and 63 will be stocked with rooster pheasants.  In addition, the Bump Sullivan and Table Mountain areas in Goshen County will also be stocked.  In Laramie County, walk-in areas 21 and 34 will be stocked and in Platte County, stockings are planned for walk-in areas 20, 23, and 24.  Weather permitting, the walk-in areas will receive two releases per week through mid-December.

In northeast Wyoming, walk-in areas scheduled to receive weekly releases of birds are 1,2,3,5 and 6 in Sheridan County. Walk-in area 4 in Campbell County will also be stocked as will area 9 in Johnson County.  Hunters are reminded that in Johnson County, walk-in area 9 does not open to pheasant hunting until Nov. 15 and in Campbell County, walk-in area 4 does not open to pheasant hunters until Nov. 1.

In addition to appropriate licenses, all hunters regardless of age must purchase a pheasant management stamp for $12.50 to hunt on walk-in areas, habitat areas and Glendo State Park.  A complete listing of pheasant seasons in the state's various hunt areas along with regulations and areas where the pheasant stamp is required is found in the current upland bird regulations.

Hunters can obtain a walk-in area atlas and upland bird regulations from any Game and Fish office, license agents throughout the state or the Game and fish Web site.
