Winter Habitat Key to Pheasant Survival
PIERRE, S.D. - The winter of 2009-2010 is already one for the record books, leaving many South Dakotans wondering how their state bird, the pheasant, can survive the elements.From the Dakotas and Minnesota to Iowa and Illinois, much of the core pheasant range is experiencing winter's first real test due to recent heavy snowstorms and extreme cold. Naturally, many hunters and conservationists have found cause for concern regarding ring-necked pheasants' ability to survive, and ask "Should we be feeding pheasants?" Pheasants Forever has some careful considerations.

Pheasants Forever is proud to announce a generous donation of $20,000 to the organization's "Reload Iowa" campaign by the Vermeer Charitable Foundation. The donation - the first major gift to "Reload Iowa - will help the campaign goal of improving 1 million acres of wildlife habitat, increasing the number of upland hunters and increasing hunting-related revenue to local communities in Iowa.

The seven-minute "In the Wild" segment is recorded, produced and featured as part of The Big Wild, America's Premier Outdoor Radio Show. The show will premiere on KORN on January 2, 2010.
Pheasant and Bobwhite Quail Stocking for Central and Southern Region WMAs - Dec. 22, 2009
The NJDEP's Division of Fish and Wildlife has decided that pheasants will be stocked for Thursday, December 24 on central and southern region Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). The 1,160 pheasants that were not stocked for December 22 on central and southern region WMAs will be evenly distributed amongst the last 3 stocking days in those regions for December 24, 29 and 31. The pheasant stocking allocations for northern region WMAs remain as originally scheduled for December 24, 29 and 31.

Students at Iowa's Oskaloosa High School have formed the first-ever high school chapter of Pheasants Forever. The groundbreaking chapter, known as the Oskaloosa Pioneering Ringnecks, will help future land stewards gain valuable conservation experience through planning, fundraising and hands-on wildlife habitat project work.
PF Names New Director of Conservation Programs for MN - Dec. 07, 2009
Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever announce Joseph M. Pavelko as the organization's new Director of Conservation Programs for Minnesota. Pavelko joins "The Habitat Organization" from the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge Trust, Inc. and Friends of the Minnesota Valley where he served as Conservation Projects Manager since 2005.
