Pheasants Forever and Diamond Jo Casinos announce the second distribution of grants from the Diamond Conservation Fund - totaling $3,750 - that will benefit four local wildlife habitat restoration and youth conservation education projects in northeast Iowa.

Dedicated pheasant hunters with high interest in conservation have formed the newest Pheasants Forever chapter in North Dakota. Known as the North Valley Pheasants Forever Chapter, the Walsh County group has rallied around introducing youth to outdoor activities.

Survey Suggests Nesting Pheasant Numbers Stable - Jul. 07, 2010
From April 25-May 21, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) conducted its annual spring survey of pheasants in the Sunflower State. As the mating season approaches, roosters increase crowing, and KDWP staff drive established routes to listen for the birds. Data from this survey, combined with the summer brood count survey in August, helps determine the outlook for the fall pheasant crop.

Rule Allowing Pheasant Stocking Begins July 1 - Jun. 30, 2010
A new rule will begin on July 1, allowing individuals to release pen reared Chinese ring-necked pheasants on their own land from hatcheries approved by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The law does not allow for the release of pen reared pheasants on land not owned or rented by the person releasing the birds.

Pheasant Crowing Counts Completed - Jun. 28, 2010
North Dakota's spring pheasant crowing count survey revealed a 6 percent decrease statewide compared to last year, according to Stan Kohn, upland game management supervisor for the state Game and Fish Department.

Pheasants Forever Applauds USDA Action Aimed Toward Fulfilling 32 Million CRP Acres - Jun. 10, 2010
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today released the final draft of a new crop insurance agreement, announcing $6 billion in savings has been created through this action. Pheasants Forever is pleased that one third of these savings will be invested in Farm Bill programs, including increasing Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acreage to the maximum authorized level of 32 million acres nationwide.

Hardy Iowa Pheasants Endured Another Difficult Winter, Wet Spring - Jun. 08, 2010
The 2009 Iowa pheasant harvest estimate of 271,126 roosters was the lowest on record and more than 100,000 fewer than 2008. Based on the winter and spring nesting weather in 2010, the upcoming fall harvest should be similar, although the August roadside survey is the best predictor of how the upcoming pheasant season will go.

Students at North Dakota State University (NDSU) have formed the state's newest Pheasants Forever chapter. Known as the NDSU Pheasants Forever Chapter, the group joins Iowa State University as the only collegiate-based Pheasants Forever chapters in the nation.
