Ness City Area - Leased Land

Whats up with all the Leased land around Ness City. Seems half the county is posted as Leased, all the same type of hand made sign. Some type of hunting club or something? Haven't remember seeing this several years ago.

Well when people Internet blabb about all the birds or large deer they have found it doesnt help any.

Im not sure specifically what you're talking about as Ive only been in the area once this year and a few times the past couple years. During deer season I did see some out of state plates in the area with what looked to be a local guiding them as I was driving through. My guess is that they'd be leasing for deer in the area.

But Ive noticed this board is pretty bad about talking about good areas that they've had success in.

I wish people would be more vague in their descriptions.

Im also sick of going to spots 3-4 hours away from Wichita and seeing it overrun with out of staters. Their obviously getting their info online if their honing in and overruning good areas.


Anyways, Im sure you'll see more of it if the new Sec of the KDWP has his way. Comments made by the new secretary and KS Gov did not sound too promising for the average guy that doesnt want to lose the shirt off of his back in order to hunt.

If it comes to having to pay to lease land for deer hunting or a landowner a rediculous amount for a deer tag should they bring anything back like the landowner transferrable tag, I will quit hunting all together and let the farmers crops/fences be overrun w deer damage.

I talked to a lady today from Ness City. She said her husband has to run trespassers off of their land several times a week. During deer season they were hunting on their land and have been shot at 2 years in a row. People throwing lead at deer from the property boundary sent bullets very close to them. Not good.
The hunting pressure is getting very bad. I don't blame people for posting their property.

Im from the town where this occured...they posted bail for $83,500! The court date is set for February 8th. http://www.mccookgazette.com/story/1686659.html

There has since been more charges filed for some of the individuals including felonies! Plan on being in court...will update when all is done!

Alright, lets start bashing out of staters now! Hell, the area I hunt, and for many years know is overrun with a bunch of Sedgwick County jackasses. Even the farmers bitch about those guys. Maybe I should relocate my hunting area a little farther west than 3 or 4 hours from Wichita. I agree, folks ought to keep info a little more vague, I have seen the pressure increase in this area. Maybe just more hunters, maybe the info the state puts out or just info shared between buddies has some to do with the increase in pressure as well.

As far as deer leasing goes, it is bad news for the pheasant hunter.

Ness is no more leased than every other county. Its bad everywhere. Most of the leasing isn't pheasant hunters its deer hunters. Most of that land around ness city is leased up by a local who brings in lots of hunters.

i have come across plenty of " jack ass" hunters with kansas tags such as mine. Being from out of state has very little to do with sportsmanship. Being a steward of the land is something you are taught by others regardless of state in which you reside. Those " sportsman" that trash parking areas, trespass, shoot from car windows, hunt 1/4 sections of land with 40 hunters and 20 dogs, all have the same genes regardless of state. These are the people that give hunters as a whole a bad name. I used to be a real gung ho " meat harvester " when i was a younger man. Some may say I might have been a little hard to hunt with. But if I can get out with the dog and one of my boys and watch the dog point one or two and my boy down one, my day is certainly complete. I can do this with or with out of state hunters coming to my state. Hell they probably said the same thing about me in the 90's up in Iowa, or the last few in South Dakota.

I'm not bashing out of staters. Residents are just as much of a problem as nonresidents. Last year I had 14 trespassing incidents. Guys from 8 different states. The winner was.... Kansas with the most. Of course this was not a scientific poll! The margin of error was off the charts
