Default water drying up or stil available

what is the status on the pot holes ( specailly in SD) ? Is the water drying up ? Or still plenty of water in the potholes?

Water in SD has been high the last few years I was the to hunt in the fall. Hopefully there has been enough water in the holes to keep them at reasonable levels ....

In my part of paradise the big sloughs are doing fine, the smaller ones are drying up. We have roads under water and are suffering from a drought at the same time. I guess that is South Dakota. The hatch is good there appears to be a substantioal increase in birds over last year. The cover is more scarce so they are more visible than last year.

Yes we received .45 this week. It was spotty, north of me some had 2 inches, some .15. The crops here look better than I think they should. We will see how they turn out.The hay and the pastures are the story here now.

Thanks for the reply Haymaker. I am going to be doing a combo duck/pheasant trip for the pheasant opener. Really do hope the crops are doing better with the rain.

Hey Chris, it looks like I'll be making the trip west with the rest of the firemen in the first part of Dec. Just kinda wondering what the status was on the areas we'll be hunting as far as emergency haying or grazing, ect.? I know these are private areas but I still have some concerns. Hopefully we'll all get some much needed rains come this fall and it wont be an issue but it sure isn't looking good right now.

Jaytee, you are further north and things are quite a bit better. Our farmers understand that hunters fund their habitat and they aren't going to feed it to the cows.
