This has a good read on the history of gsp's.Some people tried to tell me that there was no such thing as a tan gsp but I had one.In the article it states that some of the first ones were tan.A vet that I talked to one time in the 1970's said if you get a tan one it's because it's from the line that the tan ones were in.That vet was a breeder of them too.

The DNR has a put and take an hour north of me. As far as truely wild ones I have to go out of state. The last time I've seen any wild ones has been 10-15 yrs. due to coyote population is on the rise around where I live. Can't kill them fast enough to suit me.I have a friend that kills 6 a day during trapping season.

Sorry to hear that Phil. How far do you have to travel to get into good bird hunting?

Had to cancel plans for hunting out of state this year. It's due to a bunch of hospital bills and having to buy a different truck. It would have been my first time hunting phez out of state and first time in 20 plus years because the last time Iwent was with my dad in the 1980's.

For as bad as the drought has been where I hunt, my buddy said he has seen a bunch of birds the last few weeks. Some starting to get color and some with no color or tails yet! The bad news is he is selling 1100 acres up North, which is the Homestead, which has a ton of birds because there was rain up there, because he Custom Harvests and there has not been much too cut and Fall Harvest does not look good!! Wish I had a Cool Million laying around !! He went up and cut the edges of the CRP because he has to burn next Spring and said birds were boiling everywhere!!! Maybe it won't sell till after season!!! Most likely not!!!Still got a section at the house!!!

I probably stick with the same honeyholes in Kansas, even though the drought is bad. Maybe less habitat will work to my advantage. Probably will hit some spots in Eastern Colo that are booming with birds. S.D. has always been good to me, just can't make it this year!!!
